Rogier van Bakel is a GOD
Among curmudgeons, anyway.
This post is a work of pure, unadulterated genious. If I could write like this I would be a happy man. No meds required kinda happy. Here's a taste:
"A hospital is not a place any of us visit because we want to be there. Finding a captive audience does not give you license to impose your maudlin Hallmark⢠moments on it. Just the opposite. In other words: the glory of your functioning reproductive system notwithstanding, the rest of us have no need for the maternity ward's institutional schmaltz, nor for your brand of self-absorbed, coercive sentimentality."

He's talking about Medina Hospital in Rochester, NY where they play a schmaltzy hospital-wide broadcast of some sappy tune to announce the birth of each new baby.
